EA Sports has officially unveiled The World’s Game Update for FC 26, introducing a large-scale international football experience inspired by the upcoming 2026 global tournament. While the company no longer holds FIFA licensing rights, the update represents EA’s most ambitious attempt yet to recreate the atmosphere of international football inside the EA Sports FC ecosystem.
Launching on June 4, the update brings a new tournament mode, expanded Ultimate Team content, additional national teams, and gameplay features designed to capture the excitement of global football competition.
A New International Tournament Inspired by the World Cup
Although it is not officially branded as a FIFA World Cup mode, the new tournament experience closely mirrors the structure of the expanded 48-team international tournament format set to be used in 2026.
Players will have access to 53 fully licensed national teams, including 41 of the 48 nations competing in the real-world tournament.
Tournament Features Include
- 48-team international competition
- 12 groups of four teams
- Round of 32 knockout stage
- Five knockout rounds
- Playable national team tournaments in Career Mode
- Live starting points during the competition
Career Mode will also integrate the tournament, allowing players to manage national teams using real tournament rules and structures while beginning from live scenarios before and during the event.
The addition gives FC 26 players another major reason to revisit international football outside of club competitions.
Ultimate Team Receives a Major Festival of Football Expansion
One of the biggest highlights of The World’s Game Update arrives in Football Ultimate Team, where EA Sports is introducing an entirely new seasonal structure centered around international football.
The update introduces the Festival of Football, bringing new campaigns, rewards, themed content, and progression systems.
New Ultimate Team Features
- Festival of Football Event Hub
- Weekly themed campaigns
- New player items
- More than 100 international players
- Two new ICONS: Rivellino and Mario Kempes
- Limited-time Penalty Shootout mode
Players who log into FC 26 between June 5 and July 24 will also receive a 93-rated Pele card along with three Choose Your Journey Evolutions, offering additional progression opportunities for squad building.

Tokens Become a Major New Reward System
EA Sports is also introducing Tokens, a completely new reward type in Ultimate Team.
Tokens are expected to become one of the primary progression systems for players during the Festival of Football season. According to EA, users can earn up to 1,000 Tokens each week, with a total cap of 5,000 Tokens available during the event.
What Tokens Can Be Used For
- Player rewards
- Packs
- Evolutions
- Club customization content
- Special FUT Champions rewards
FUT Champions will also receive its own Token system and rotating rewards, including special Red FUT Champions player items.
For many Ultimate Team players preparing for Festival of Football content, having enough resources available will be important for maximizing evolutions, packs, and event progression. Because of this, some members of the community choose to Buy cheap FC 26 Points in advance through platforms such as vip4game.com, where players can explore different FC-related options depending on their Ultimate Team goals.
More International Content Is Coming to FC 26
Beyond Ultimate Team, EA Sports confirmed that several real-world tournament venues will be included in the update, helping improve immersion and match presentation.
At the same time, Journey of Nations will introduce a dedicated Event Hub featuring over 250 football challenges, encouraging players to build international-themed squads from across five continents to unlock rewards.
Additional gameplay improvements and Clubs mode tweaks are also expected to arrive as part of the update.
EA Sports Continues Building International Football Without FIFA
Since splitting from FIFA in 2022, many questioned whether EA Sports could maintain the global football identity that helped make the franchise successful.
The World’s Game Update suggests the publisher is continuing to invest heavily in international football despite losing official FIFA branding. With licensed national teams, tournament-inspired formats, expanded Ultimate Team systems, and major seasonal content, FC 26 appears ready to deliver one of its biggest international football experiences to date.
